Maritime education

The Faroe Islands have two public providers of recognised maritime education and courses: the Centre of Maritime Studies and Engineering in Tórshavn and the Maritime Training Centre in Klaksvík. Their maritime programmes follow international requirements, have IMO approval and meet relevant STCW requirements. The Centre of Maritime Studies and Engineering offers the following qualifications and the required associated courses:

• Master Mariner

• Marine Engineer

• Skipper

• Marine Engineering Officer

• Required maritime courses

Sjónám in Klaksvík https://sjonam.fo/skipari?_l=fo offers the Skipari qualification and Skipsatstøðari https://sjonam.fo/skipsatstodari?_l=fo, a one-year ship-rating programme that can provide a route to further skipper education when the stated sea-service requirements are met.
