Learning Faroese is a wonderful way to feel more at home and take part in everyday life. You do not need to worry if no course is open today. Local evening schools often arrange beginner courses in autumn and winter, and new programmes are announced each school year. The options below are good places to ask about the next course.

Start locally in Leirvík. Eystur municapility offers Faroese lessons for newcomers at Skúlin í Leirvík. It also arranges a language café, where you can practise speaking in a relaxed and friendly setting. These activities may not run all year, so check the official evening-school page or ask when the next one will begin.

If there is no course right now
Do not be discouraged. Contact the organiser and ask when the next programme will be announced, whether you can join a waiting list, and whether there is a language café or conversation group you can attend in the meantime. It is completely fine to write or call in English. Before signing up, ask whether the course welcomes complete beginners, when and where it meets, what it costs, and which language the teacher uses for explanations.
