Support for people with disabilities

People with disabilities may receive support from Almannaverkið, the Faroese Department of Social Services. https://www.av.fo/en

Support can include:

- personal assistance;

- assistive devices such as wheelchairs and walking aids;

- adaptations to homes;

- specially equipped housing;

- assistance connected with work or education;

- support for families caring for a child with a disability or long-term illness;

Financial support may also be available in some disability-related circumstances; eligibility depends on the individual benefit and an assessment by Almannaverkið.

People with reduced functional ability due to a physical or mental disability or a long-term illness can apply to Almannaverkið for assistive devices. https://www.av.fo/utgjoeld-og-veitingar/hjalpartol-bilur-og-bustadarbroytingar Support may be granted when a device substantially reduces the lasting effects of the condition or makes daily life at home substantially easier. Almannaverkið assesses each application individually.
