For a life-threatening emergency, call 112.

For urgent medical problems outside your GP's normal opening hours, call 1870.

The out-of-hours doctor can give advice by telephone, arrange a consultation, send a doctor to you in certain situations, or refer you to hospital.

The Faroe Islands have three hospitals, with the National Hospital in Tórshavn being the largest.

Some specialist treatments that are not available in the Faroe Islands can be provided abroad, normally following a referral through the Faroese healthcare system.
