Healtcare insurence
Heilsutrygd is the national health insurance system of the Faroe Islands.
Residents registered in the Faroese Civil Register generally have access to free or subsidised healthcare services.
After receiving your P-number, you can choose a GP (family doctor). In some municipalities, you can choose your GP, while in other municipalities there is only one GP.
If you do not choose a GP yourself, Heilsutrygd assign one to you.
Adults covered by the system contribute to Heilsutrygd through taxation and/or a health-insurance payment.
There can be a six-week waiting period before national health insurance becomes effective after registering your move to the Faroe Islands.
