Support for Children with Special Educational Needs

National educational support service (Sernám)

Sernám is the national educational support service for schools and children who need additional support.

Depending on the child’s needs, Sernám may provide:

Psychological assessments.
Educational advice and guidance.
Speech and language support.
Counselling.
Advice on how to adapt teaching for the child.

Sernám can provide additional support when a child’s needs extend beyond the support available from the school or municipality.

Specialised Education and Further Study

Older students who need specialised education may be able to access suitable programmes through secondary schools and vocational colleges.

In the northern region, options may include programmes at Tekniski skúlin í Klaksvík and Miðnám á Kambsdali, depending on the student’s age, needs and admission requirements.
